According to Marc, traditional marketing, programming, and engagement in higher education have reached their limits because student affairs has traditionally focused on information sharing, filling spaces, meeting quotas, and negotiating access rather than helping students feel like they belong in their programs, spaces and opportunities.
By focusing on Belonging, we can have stronger engagement with students that have them showing up, telling their friends, and coming back for more!
Participants will be introduced to the Belonging Framework, explore the framework's three pillars (Invited, Welcomed, and Included) and how they can apply the framework in a variety of areas such as programming, marketing, collaborations, and opportunities to create a more inclusive and equitable student experience. Facilitator:
With the belief that Belonging - where people feel Invited, Welcomed and Included - is the cornerstone for a healthy society, Marc has over 20 years building inclusive programs and communities through his work in higher education, sport & recreation, and community development.
Marc has extensive experience in student affairs with leadership roles in the International Student Office, Residence Life, and Campus Recreation and is currently the Executive Director of the Mohawk Students' Association. By prioritizing collaborations with multiple partners who support diverse communities, he nurtured opportunities focusing on experiential learning, inclusive programming, and community engagement resulting in substantial increased sense of belonging among higher education communities.
