Participants can expect to acquire the knowledge and skills to participate effectively in the development of institutional policies and practices consistent with national, provincial, territorial and local laws alongside emergent policy and practice trends in Higher Education in Canada. The Law & Policy Institute will address the Student Affairs and Services competency areas at the intermediate to advanced level, with specific focus on post-secondary acumen. In addition, participants can expect to achieve outcomes related to: equity, diversity, and inclusion; communication; and leadership, management, and administration.

Each day will kick off with a guest speaker, followed by two case studies. Experience an opportunity to develop supportive and dialogic relationships with colleagues across institutions and disciplines through cohort problem-based learning experiences and informal interactions that may be sustained beyond the Institute. Case studies topics will include; privacy breach, sexual violence, competing rights, freedom of expression, large off campus gatherings, complex mental health, hate-based activity, discriminatory admissions processes, and student association relations.   The intended audience for this institute is individuals at the senior levels of Student Affairs and Services, including Dean, Director, Vice President or AVP. However, mid-level professionals with strong foundational competency in post-secondary acumen may also benefit from attending this institute.
