Heather Doyle will be kicking off the Summit with our featured presentation entitled; Navigating Student Success: The Evolving Role of Canadian Academic Advisors.

 

This session aims to inspire and equip Canadian academic advisors with the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to effectively support student success in today's ever-changing educational landscape. Together, we'll explore innovative approaches and collaborative solutions to empower students on their academic and personal journeys. We will review the context of academic advising within Canadian higher education institutions while discussing the pivotal role advisors play in guiding students towards success, helping them navigate challenges, and fostering holistic development. We'll explore how advisors address the diverse needs, goals, and aspirations of students from various backgrounds and academic stages, while addressing the importance of inclusive practices to ensure equitable access and support for all students, especially those from marginalized communities. Together, we'll explore innovative approaches and collaborative solutions to empower students on their academic and personal journeys.

 

Heather has a background in Psychology, with a BA in Psychology from the University of Prince Edward Island and an MEd in Counselling Psychology from Memorial University. She currently works at Dalhousie University, as Director of Research. Assessment and Planning for the Division of Student Affairs. This position works to foster, develop, and promote effectiveness of the Division through coordinated planning, assessment, and research activities and providing opportunities that facilitate learning and build community for student success. Heather is the first certified Appreciative Advisor in Canada and works as a sessional lecturer at both Florida Atlantic University and University of Manitoba, teaching the online Appreciative Advising course, and Advising Essentials, and Assessment in Advising courses respectively. She is also faculty at the Appreciative Advising Institute and Course Director of the online Appreciative Advising. Heather has presented nationally and internationally and has been a panelist on several webinars in the areas of assessment, academic advising, career advising, social justice, Appreciative Advising and student success.

The registration rate is for the three day offering, including the featured presentation. 

 

Academic Advising Summit Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be received in writing (via email) 1 week (7 days) prior to the event. No refunds will be issued if the request is received less than one week before the event. Cancellations received prior to 1 week of the event will receive a refund minus an administration fee. Administration fee for cancellation is $40. In extenuating circumstances, event registrations can be transferred to another delegate. Registration could be transferred to another delegate with a $20 administration fee.
