10am PT // 1pm ET // 2pm AT Leadership happens at every level within an organization. It comes in many forms and in many spaces. This session will explore non-traditional leadership practices and approaches, and will examine how we can create inter-connected and intentional spaces for personal growth and leadership development for ourself and others. Following a 45 minute presentation from our guest speaker and 15 minutes for questions, there will be optional networking in small breakout rooms for 15 minutes. Meet our guest speaker, Deanna Mohamed!  Deanna was born and raised in the historical African Nova Scotian community of New Glasgow. Deanna has worked in the field of education for 20 years. She started her career in New Glasgow Schools as an African Nova Scotia Student Support Worker and has been employed for the past 15 years at the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), where she currently works as the Student Services Advisor for the School of Health and Human Services and African Canadian Supports at Pictou campus. She was seconded for a term at NSCC’s Central Office as the Equity and Inclusion Advisor with Human Rights and Equity Services in 2021.
Deanna has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Acadia University (’93) and a Master of Education in Lifelong Learning with a focus on Africentric Leadership from Mount Saint Vincent University (2008). She also received a Community College Education Diploma in 2011 from NSCC and in 2015, Deanna became a Diversity Trainer and Facilitator for the college.
In 2012, Deanna was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for providing mentorship and inspiration to young adults, especially within the African Canadian community and for helping to build a more inclusive and understanding society. In 2017 she received the Award of Merit Recognizing Contributions Towards the Elimination of Racial Discrimination from the Town of New Glasgow. In 2023, Deanna was awarded the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alumni Legacy Award by Mount Saint Vincent University.
Deanna is a sought-after keynote speaker and workshop facilitator, having presented to thousands of people on numerous topics related to Africentricity, the Islamic faith, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Leadership and Motivation, African Nova Scotian History and Black Lives Matter.
