Session Details:

The introduction of AI tools is changing how faculty teach, and students learn. This shift challenges student affairs professionals to adapt their practices to better guide students in using AI for ethical and effective learning.

While discussions about AI often centre on academic integrity, at U of T’s Centre for Learning Strategy Support, we have focused on the opportunities and limitations of AI in student learning development. Drawing on case studies and scenarios, we will present insights from our staff- and student-facing programming designed to encourage ethical use of AI tools to support good learning.

In this session, participants will:
Discuss the pedagogical opportunities and challenges related to student AI use in their learning and academic work.
Explore AI prompt-engineering approaches to enhance learning.
Engage in a group discussion on strategies, questions, and concerns about student use of AI in learning practices.

Participants will leave with insights to support their guidance of student AI use in ways that enhance, rather than hinder, learning. "
