Based on story-based research studies within the field of Indigenous Student Services, this 75-minute panel presentation will address systemic challenges faced by Indigenous student service professionals working in the public post-secondary education systems and explore acts of resilience and tenacity amongst Indigenous practitioners dedicated to creating an inclusive and welcome learning environment for Indigenous students. The session will address ongoing encounters with colonial systems and practices, the general lack of knowledge regarding Indigenous peoples within the work environment, colonial resistance to the transformation of education, and the role for good neighbors as active collaborators and accomplices in reconciliation.

This session will be co-presented by three Indigenous scholars engaged in Indigenous student services research and practices in higher education. The presentation content will be based on information shared through various research studies, lived experiences, particularly with respect to encounters with colonial systems in education, as well as Indigenous theory and practice.
