New Professionals Institute: Fall 2025

CACUSS is excited to offer the New Professionals Institute this fall. This will be a virtual offering taking place over the course of six days for two hours from 2:00pm - 4:00pm EST each session. Participants should also schedule an additional 2 hours a week over the course of the Institute to connect with peers, the Facilitator, a mentor and to review the available readings and resources. 

Join the New Professionals Institute and join colleagues from across Canada on a developmental learning journey in student affairs. The NPI program equips new professionals (1-5 years in the field) with essential competencies, insights, and real-world problem-based learning crucial for navigating today's post-secondary education landscapes and student affairs work with confidence. NPI brings emergent thinking, leadership development, and problem-based learning to support new professionals in addressing the contemporary challenges of the profession. NPI offers a tailored learning experience designed to elevate careers in student affairs. Participants will benefit from personalized guidance and checkpoints with knowledgeable facilitators, ensuring impactful growth and development. Whether you're aiming to advance within your current role or exploring new career opportunities, NPI empowers you to lead effectively in the dynamic field of student affairs.


Event Details & Registration

Dates: 

Wednesdays & Fridays

November 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28

Time: 

2 hours each day, starting at 11:00am PST / 12:00pm MTN / 2:00pm EST / 3:00pm ATL

Registration Fees: 

Early bird rate in effect until October 15, 2025.

Member: Early bird: $689. After 10/15: $789

Non-Member: Early bird: $789. After 9/15: $889

Pre-work: institute participants will be asked to watch one introductory video and complete a short one page reflection on core values and student affairs, in addition to posting an introductory discussion on the online forum (approx. 3 hours) prior to July 8. Participants will also be required to select a mentor who will support them throughout their journey. The mentor will offer guidance, feedback, and support in applying the learnings from NPI. This mentor can be a current or previous supervisor, a mid-level professional colleague, or a leader in the field of your choosing. 

Member Rate: $689.00

Non-member Rate: $789.00

Meet the Facilitators!

 

Jared Boland:

Jared is a queer settler currently living on Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat (Wyandot), and Mississaugas of the Credit territory.
Jared is a doctoral student at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (University of Toronto), investigating teacher professional development on trans and queer experiences and epistemologies from sociocultural, material phenomenological, and trans theoretical perspectives. Their MA (OISE, University of Toronto) research on similar topics was supported by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council.
In his professional work, Jared seeks to help students weave together the variety of educational experiences offered by postsecondary education: that in the classroom, that in character and value development, that in student leadership education, and more. Jared has a served in progressive leadership positions in student life, primarily in the areas of orientation and transition, mentorship, equity education, and student government advising.

Layne Wilson (she/her)

Layne is a student affairs professional and project manager with over 12 years of experience in postsecondary education, including roles in residence life, academic advising, project management, and strategic operations. Currently serving as Project Manager, Student Success at Conestoga College, she collaborates across departments to implement student centred initiatives. Layne holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from the University of Guelph and is passionate about values-based leadership, creative problem-solving, and developing practical, forward-thinking solutions that improve the student experience.

 

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations must be received in writing (via email) 1 week (7 days) prior to the event. No refunds will be issued if the request is received less than one week before the event. Cancellations received prior to 1 week of the event will receive a refund minus an administration fee. Administration fee for cancellation is $40. In extenuating circumstances, event registrations can be transferred to another delegate. Registration could be transferred to another delegate with a $20 administration fee.
